The experience

You arrive in central Fremantle and meet your guide to begin exploring on foot. The tour moves through the heart of the city, starting with an orientation before heading into FOMO Freo: a hub combining art, architecture, retail and dining in Walyalup Koort. From there you walk a pedestrianized mall that connects the famous Cappuccino Strip to the civic center, recently revitalized with new street art, improved lighting and alfresco seating.

The colonial history unfolds as you move through key trading streets and down to the port, where you'll learn how C.Y. O'Connor engineered Fremantle's harbor in the late 1800s. A limestone tunnel cut into the cliff once transported whale products from the waterfront to High Street: a passage with a working life beyond commerce. You visit the Round House, the oldest building in the city and its first prison, then walk to the landing site where the first European settlers came ashore, with a chance to climb on the remains of the original timber-piled jetty. The guide shares stories of prisoner escapes, Indigenous history and the reclamation of the land itself.

The tour finishes on the Cappuccino Strip, Fremantle's famous dining and café district. Coffee or tea is included, and the entire route stays within walking distance of central Fremantle, making it accessible without a car or prior knowledge of the layout.
