Step-by-step itinerary

Eynesbury Homestead dinner and ghost tour

  • Arrive at Eynesbury Homestead
  • Enjoy dinner with $30 gift certificate
  • Begin ghost tour on front porch
  • Explore haunted lake and stables
  • Visit abandoned meat room and quarters
  • Discover stories of betrayal and spirits

The Experience

Eynesbury Homestead sits 40 minutes from Melbourne on a 20,000-acre heritage property that looks like a country estate from the outside—polo ponies, British grandeur, Pimms—but holds a much darker story underneath. You start with dinner in the fully licensed restaurant onsite, where a $30 per person gift certificate lets you choose from the menu. The homestead's bluestone architecture and manicured gardens set the scene before the sun goes down.

Once darkness falls, the ghost tour begins on the front porch overlooking the garden. Your guide leads you through the property's most unsettling corners: the haunted lake, the eerie stables, the abandoned meat room, the servants quarters, and what the operator calls the "dark and dangerous nooks and crannies" where the Staughton family's obsessions, betrayals and violent history still seem to linger. The tour is award-winning and built on real stories of the estate, not invented scares. You're walking outdoors through the grounds, so the inky-black night is part of what you move through.

The tour runs only on the third Friday of each month, so dates are fixed. Alcoholic drinks are available to purchase beyond the $30 credit. The experience is 3.5 hours total—dinner and tour combined—and you'll need to arrange your own transport to and from the property; the operator does not provide hotel pickup or drop-off.

  • award-winning ghost tour led by a local guide through the haunted grounds.
