Private Transfer El Calafate Airport to El Chaltén
Cross the Patagonian steppe to the trekking hub of El Chaltén
A private transfer from El Calafate Airport to El Chaltén, the only village inside Los Glaciares National Park, crossing National Route 40 with stops at viewpoints and a coffee break at Río la Leona. The driver coordinates pickup timing, stays available during your stay for trailhead runs, and can drop you at the entrance to self-guided trails like Laguna de los Tres, Laguna Capri, or Laguna Torre.
The experience
The drive from El Calafate to El Chaltén takes between two and four hours depending on weather: wind and snow can slow the route without warning. You'll cross National Route 40, the legendary highway that runs the spine of Patagonia, with time to stop at viewpoints along the way. A coffee break at Río la Leona breaks up the journey and lets you step out into the landscape. The driver will coordinate your pickup time before the reservation is confirmed and can adjust for flight delays or your own schedule.
Once you reach El Chaltén, the driver takes you directly to your hotel or, if you're ready to start hiking, to the trailhead entrance. The village sits at the gateway to Cerro Torre and Mount Fitz Roy, with trails radiating out to Laguna de los Tres, Laguna Capri, and Laguna Torre. Your driver remains available throughout your stay. You can store bags in the vehicle while you hike and call for pickup at any trailhead when you're done. Complimentary bottled water and snacks are included for the transfer itself.
National Park entrance fees are separate and paid at the gate. The route reveals traditional Estancias (ranches) and open steppe where you may spot Andean Condors, Caranchos, and Chimangos. Round-trip service back to El Calafate is available on request.
