The experience
The tour picks you up from your central Cordoba hotel at 9 am and heads south on Provincial Route 5, passing through Alta Gracia, Anisacate, and smaller towns before the landscape opens into the Sierras Grandes. You climb through coniferous forests into the foothills, where the air cools and the terrain shifts from pampas to mountain.
La Cumbrecita is the centerpiece: a village of roughly 400 residents, founded by German immigrants in the 1930s and designed as a car-free zone. Cobblestone streets wind between chalets and alpine lodges. The only sounds are footsteps and water. Your guide takes you to the balneario "La Olla" (a natural pool area), the traditional Hotel La Cumbrecita, and the Capilla Ecumenica, a small ecumenical chapel perched at the top of a forest road in one of the village's highest points. The chapel was designed by Helmut Cabjolsky, one of the early architects who shaped the village's alpine aesthetic.
After La Cumbrecita, the tour continues to Villa General Belgrano, a neighboring village with its own Central European character. On the return to Cordoba, you pass through La Curva del Viento (the Wind Curve), a viewpoint overlooking Los Molinos Lake and Dam: a moment to see the landscape you've crossed. Drop-off at your hotel is around 7 pm.
