The experience

Pal sits at 1,551 meters in the parish of La Massana, built around the Church of Saint Clement: a 12th-century Romanesque structure with a rectangular bell tower marked by twin windows. From there, the tour climbs to Coll de la Botella at 2,069 meters, a mountain pass that opens west toward the Comapedrosa massif and the western Andorran valleys. The alpine meadows and scree slopes frame the first panoramic stop of the day.

Ordino, the cultural heart of Andorra about 10 kilometers northwest of the capital, anchors the second half. The old town spreads across cobblestone streets lined with traditional dry-stone houses and wooden balconies. The Church of Sant Corneli and Sant Cebrià blends Romanesque and Baroque elements. Casa Areny-Plandolit, a 17th-century aristocratic house-museum, and Casa Rossell with its characteristic dovecote sit nearby. The Ordino pass at 1,980 meters separates the Valira del Norte valley to the west from the Valira de Oriente to the east, and the road descends toward Canillo.

The Roc del Quer viewpoint is the tour's most distinctive stop: a 20-meter metal platform with eight meters anchored to firm ground and twelve meters suspended in the air at 500 meters high. Part of the pavement is transparent glass, amplifying the sense of altitude. A sculpture of a seated thinker by artist Miguel Ángel González sits at the platform's end. From here, the panoramic view sweeps across the Montaup and Valira de Oriente valleys from Soldeu to Encamp. The final stop is the Meritxell Sanctuary, a basilica in Canillo where a replica of the Romanesque Virgin destroyed in a 1972 fire continues to be venerated. September 8 marks Andorra's national holiday in her honor.
