What’s included

Your day includes private transportation on a motorbike with an English-speaking driver-guide (“Easy Rider” style), hotel pickup from Da Nang or Hoi An (or vice versa), all entry fees along the way including Linh Ung Pagoda and Tam Giang Lagoon stops, bottled water throughout the journey plus coffee or tea breaks—and a fresh seafood lunch overlooking Lang Co Bay before continuing onward toward Hue.

The morning started with me fumbling my helmet strap—my fingers just wouldn’t cooperate, and our Easy Rider guide (his name was Tuan) grinned and helped me out. I’d never been on a motorbike for more than an hour before, so I was a little nervous. But as soon as we left Da Nang and hit the open road toward My Khe Beach, that salty air and the distant sound of waves calmed me down. The city faded behind us, replaced by the kind of green you only see in Vietnam—bright, almost too much for your eyes at first.

Tuan pointed out the Lady Buddha at Linh Ung Pagoda, standing tall against the sky. He told us about local fishermen leaving incense at dawn—I could still catch a whiff of it mixed with sea breeze. We stopped for coffee somewhere near Son Tra Peninsula; it was strong enough to wake up my ancestors. I tried to say “cà phê sữa đá” like he did but mostly got laughter from the woman running the stall (fair enough). The road up Hai Van Pass started twisting after that—sometimes you’d look over and there’s just this drop, mist curling around the cliffs. It’s both beautiful and slightly terrifying if you’re not used to it.

Lunch was at Lang Co Bay—a tiny place right by the water where they brought out grilled clams and something I couldn’t identify but ate anyway (it was good). There were other travelers there too, but mostly locals chatting in bursts of Vietnamese. Afterward, we rolled through villages at the foot of Bach Ma Mountains; kids waved as we passed, and I caught glimpses of farmers bent over in muddy fields. The air changed again near Tam Giang Lagoon—suddenly briny and quieter somehow, except for birds calling across the water.

I didn’t expect to feel so free riding that stretch between Hoi An and Hue—wind in my face, hair wild under my helmet (I gave up trying to fix it). We swam in a cool stream outside town before heading into Hue. Tuan said something about how every bend in the road has its own story—I think I believe him now. I still think about that view from Hai Van Pass sometimes when things get noisy back home.
