You get real freedom on this private Maui snorkel trip—choose your reef, skip the crowds, and spend more time in clear water with turtles and colorful fish. It’s fast, easygoing fun with guides who know every corner of these reefs.
The first thing I noticed stepping onto the Super Raft was how close you sit to the water—just a few feet above the surface. You feel every salty breeze and catch little sprays as we zipped out from Maʻalaea Harbor. Our captain, Kimo, joked about beating the bigger boats to Molokini Crater, and he wasn’t kidding. We reached that crescent-shaped reef in what felt like no time, leaving most of the crowds behind us.
Sliding into the water, it’s quiet except for your own breathing through the snorkel. The clarity is unreal—sunlight cuts right down to the coral gardens below. I spotted parrotfish nibbling at coral edges and a green sea turtle gliding past, totally unbothered by our small group. Kimo pointed out a patch of rare black coral near the crater wall—something you’d miss without a local guide who knows these waters inside out.
Onboard snacks are simple but hit the spot after swimming—fresh pineapple and cold drinks. There’s even an actual restroom on board (which you’ll appreciate after an hour in the ocean). If weather shifts, they’ll switch up destinations; one morning we ended up at Coral Gardens instead, where spinner dolphins sometimes show off nearby. Either way, there’s plenty of time in the water before heading back while most tours are just arriving.
