What’s included

Your day includes roundtrip shuttle pickup and drop-off at your Waikiki hotel, bottled water for the hike, national park entry fees covered, plus bug spray and walking sticks handed out before you start up toward Manoa Falls.

The first thing I noticed was the smell—wet leaves and that sharp eucalyptus tang as we crossed the footbridge into Manoa Valley. Our driver, Kimo, handed out hiking sticks and bug spray (definitely use it) before waving us off. He told me he’d be back in about two hours, then pointed up at a rainbow that looked almost fake against the green. I tried to take a photo but my lens fogged up instantly. Typical.

The trail isn’t long—just under a mile each way—but it’s muddy in parts, so my shoes were a mess within minutes. I didn’t mind. There were families chatting in Japanese and Portuguese behind us; one little kid kept squealing every time a bird darted overhead. The forest felt close and alive—ferns brushing my arms, water trickling somewhere out of sight. At one point I stopped just to listen. It’s quieter than you’d expect for being so close to Waikiki.

Getting to the waterfall itself took maybe 40 minutes? Hard to say because we kept stopping for photos or just staring at the light coming through the trees. The falls are set back behind a fence now (safety thing), but you still get that cool mist on your face if you stand close enough. I didn’t expect to feel so calm there—maybe it was the sound of water or just being away from city noise for a bit. On the way down, Kimo was waiting with cold water bottles and asked if we saw any wild pigs (we didn’t). He laughed when I tried to pronounce “Manoa” correctly—still not sure I got it right.
