You’ll race against the clock in one of Cincinnati’s best escape rooms, working side-by-side with friends or family to solve puzzles and break out before time runs out. With five different adventures (like Prison Break or Gold Rush), plus help from your local game guide and easy admission right downtown, you’ll leave with stories—and probably some inside jokes—you didn’t expect.
Ever wondered if you’d actually make it out? That was my first thought as we stood outside The Escape Game Cincinnati, right on Freedom Way, just a few steps from the stadiums and all that noise from a Reds game drifting over. Our group was a mix — my cousin who loves puzzles, two friends who’d never tried an escape room, and me, mostly here for the laughs (and maybe to prove I’m not terrible at clues). We were greeted by our guide, Jamie, who had this easy way of explaining things without making us feel like total newbies. You could smell tacos from Condado down the block — not gonna lie, I got distracted for a second.
The real surprise was how fast those 60 minutes go. We picked “Prison Break” because someone (not naming names) wanted “the hardest one.” The door shut behind us and suddenly it was just us and these weird metal beds and cryptic numbers scratched into the wall. There’s this moment when you’re all staring at each other like… now what? But then someone finds a clue under a pillow, and suddenly everyone’s shouting ideas. Jamie checked in through the speaker now and then — not too much, just enough to keep us moving when we hit a wall. At one point I tried to pick a lock with way too much confidence; everyone laughed so hard I almost forgot we were supposed to be escaping.
I didn’t expect how much I’d get caught up in it — that little jolt every time we solved something together. The light in those rooms is kind of soft but focused, so you’re squinting at tiny details or running your hands along cold metal edges looking for switches. When we finally burst out (with four minutes left), I felt this weird mix of relief and pride. We hung around after for photos with our “We Escaped!” sign — cheesy but honestly? Worth it. Walking back past Taste of Belgium, still buzzing about which clue stumped us most, I realized how rare it is to just play like that as adults.
