What’s included

Your evening covers hotel pickup by air-conditioned Land Cruiser from anywhere in Dubai plus bottled water along the way. At camp you’ll get Arabic coffee with dates on arrival before trying henna painting or camel riding. Sand-boarding is available too if you’re feeling brave! Dinner is a full Arabic BBQ buffet with dessert and drinks while live shows play out under lantern light—all before being dropped back at your hotel late that night.

We bounced out of Dubai in a 4x4 just as the city faded into sand—one minute there’s glass towers, next it’s all gold dust and sky. Our driver, Ahmed, grinned at us in the mirror before steering straight into the dunes. The way the Land Cruiser slid sideways made my stomach drop (in a fun way), and I caught myself laughing like a kid. Sand got everywhere—my shoes are probably still full of it. We stopped on a ridge right as the sun started melting into orange and purple. I tried to snap photos but honestly, it didn’t really capture how wide and quiet it felt out there.

At the camp, this sweet smell of grilled meat drifted over everything—mixed with something floral from the shisha corner where two guys were already deep in conversation. A woman in bright robes pressed dates into my hand and poured tiny cups of coffee that tasted smoky and strong. I tried saying thank you in Arabic (didn’t quite nail it), but she smiled anyway. My friend dragged me over for henna tattoos; the artist’s hands moved so fast I barely noticed until I looked down and saw these swirling patterns on my skin.

I wasn’t sure about riding a camel at first (they look so unimpressed with humans) but ended up loving how slow everything felt from up there—like time stretched out between each step. Later, we watched a Tannoura dancer spin for ages without getting dizzy (how?) while kids ran around chasing each other through lantern light. The BBQ dinner was simple but good—grilled chicken, rice, flatbread—and we ate sitting on low cushions with our plates balanced on our knees. There was music too: belly dancing that somehow made everyone hush for a minute, even the chatty group near us.

On the drive back to Dubai, sand still clinging to my jeans, I kept thinking about that moment at sunset when everything went quiet except for wind moving across the dunes. It’s strange how those little silences stick with you more than anything else.
