You’ll get close to Tobago’s sea life—dolphins, turtles, even manta rays—while snorkeling at three different spots in Buccoo Reef. It’s easy-going, fun for all levels, and you’ll leave with salty hair and some wild stories.
The sun was barely up when we hopped onto the speedboat, salt air already sticking to my skin. Our guide—local guy named Marcus—handed out masks and fins, joking about how the dolphins sometimes race the boat. I could hear reggae from a fishing boat nearby, and a pelican swooped low as we pulled away from the dock.
First stop: a patch of reef where turtles glide right under you if you float quietly enough. The water’s so clear you can see every ripple of sand below. At the second site, I caught sight of a manta ray flapping by—honestly, it looked like it was flying underwater. Marcus pointed out some coral that locals call “brain coral”—it really does look like one. Between spots, we sipped cold drinks and nibbled on snacks while swapping stories with other travelers. The last snorkel point had schools of tiny blue fish darting everywhere; I lost track of time just drifting along.
Yes! The guides are patient and explain everything before you get in the water. All gear is provided too.
Wildlife sightings can’t be guaranteed but most days we spot at least one or two turtles and often dolphins near the reef.
Yep, there’s bottled water and soft drinks for everyone, plus some light snacks between snorkel stops.
The whole trip usually takes about 3 hours from start to finish.
Your snorkeling gear (mask, fins), bottled water, soda or pop—all set up on board for you. Just bring your swimsuit and towel!
