Summary

Cycle past Valencia’s icons with local flavors and stories along the way

You’ll cycle past Valencia’s boldest sights with a local guide—gliding from the futuristic City of Arts & Sciences to Serranos Towers, tasting fresh horchata at Central Market, pausing in lush Turia Gardens, and finishing with a sweet sip of Agua de Valencia. Expect laughter, real stories, and plenty of small surprises along the way.

experience

What’s the experience like?

The first thing I remember is how the morning light hit the City of Arts and Sciences—those white curves almost glowing. Our guide, Marta, waved us over in a mix of Dutch and English (she switched between both so easily). The bikes were lined up outside their little shop near Plaza de la Reina, and I felt that familiar nervous energy you get before trying something new in a city you barely know. Someone’s bell kept dinging by accident—made us all laugh before we’d even started pedaling.

We zigzagged through narrow streets that smelled like oranges and coffee, dodging locals who just nodded or smiled as we went by. At the Central Market, Marta handed us tiny glasses of horchata and a pastry she called fartón (I tried to say it right—she grinned and said I was close enough). The market was loud—vendors shouting about tomatoes, someone slicing jamón behind a glass counter. I could’ve stayed there for hours but we had to keep moving or I’d never leave.

I didn’t expect to love the Turia Riverbed Gardens as much as I did. It’s this long green ribbon where an old river used to run—now full of families picnicking under palm trees, kids chasing each other around fountains. We stopped on one bridge just to catch our breath; Marta pointed out Serranos Towers in the distance and told us a story about medieval knights that sounded half real, half legend. My legs were starting to ache but honestly? The breeze made it worth it. The city feels different when you’re rolling through it instead of walking.

We finished near Plaza de la Virgen with tiny chupitos of Agua de Valencia (stronger than I thought), everyone sweaty but smiling. Someone asked if we could do it again tomorrow—which probably says more than any review ever could. Even now, back home, I still think about those sunlit streets and how easy it was to feel part of Valencia for a few hours.
