Summary

Modern icons, digital art & Banksy at Moco Museum Barcelona

You’ll wander through Barcelona’s Moco Museum surrounded by Warhols, Basquiats, immersive digital rooms and Banksy originals. The included audio guide brings each piece alive while the Robbie Williams exhibition adds an unexpectedly personal touch. You’ll leave feeling both inspired and oddly connected to everyone else who passed through.

experience

What’s the experience like?

I didn’t expect to laugh out loud in a museum, but there I was, standing under a swirl of neon words in the Moco Museum Barcelona, trying to make sense of it all. The place smells faintly like old stone and fresh paint — kind of a mix you only get in these old city buildings that now house something totally new. Our audio guide was this gentle voice (with just enough Catalan accent) who made even Warhol’s soup cans feel like they belonged to the street outside. At one point, a little kid pointed at the Banksy wall and shouted something I couldn’t catch — his mom just shrugged and smiled, like she’d seen it before.

The whole “Confessions of a Crowded Mind” show by Robbie Williams was way more personal than I expected. There’s this piece with scribbled words layered over faces — it actually made me stop and stare for longer than I meant to. The digital rooms are wild too; one had mirrors everywhere so you see yourself multiplied out into infinity (I got dizzy and nearly bumped into a guy who just grinned at me). It’s not huge, but every corner has something that pulls you in — Basquiat’s colors practically hum off the wall, and Kusama’s dots somehow make you want to touch them (don’t, obviously).

We wandered through NFT screens (first time I’ve seen those in person), Dalí sketches tucked between big names, and then ended up in the shop where you get a discount with your ticket. I bought a postcard I’ll probably never send. By the time we stepped back onto Carrer de Montcada, my head felt full but lighter — if that makes sense. Sometimes art museums can feel stiff or distant; this one just felt like people trying things out together. Still thinking about those mirrors.
