If you want your kids to fall in love with nature—and maybe get a little wet—this family rafting trip on the Soča River is a winner. You’ll paddle together, laugh with local guides, and make memories that’ll stick long after your shoes dry out.
Right from the start, you can feel the excitement buzzing at the meeting point—kids tugging at wetsuits, parents snapping quick photos. Our guide, Luka, handed out gear that actually fit the little ones (not always a given), and made sure everyone felt comfortable before we hopped in the van. The drive to the river only took about ten minutes, winding past wildflower meadows and a bakery that smelled like fresh bread. I remember my youngest asking if we could stop for a pastry—maybe next time.
The Soča River itself is this unreal shade of blue-green, almost like someone dropped watercolor paint into it. We set off on a gentle stretch—nothing too wild—which was perfect for our group. Luka kept things lively with pirate jokes and splash contests. At one bend, he pointed out a spot where locals sometimes jump in; he let the braver kids (and adults) try it out. The water was cold but not shocking—just enough to wake you up. Between paddling and floating along, there were plenty of chances to swim or just drift and look up at the mountains. By the end, everyone was grinning—even our usually-shy middle child was chatting away about “steering like a real captain.”
