Summary

Loch Ness, Glencoe and Isle of Skye in three wild days

You’ll cross wild moors to Glencoe’s haunting valleys, stand beneath Skye’s jagged cliffs with salty wind in your face, share stories with locals over mugs of tea—and maybe lose track of time along Loch Ness. This three-day small group tour gives you space to breathe in Scotland’s raw beauty at your own pace.

experience

What’s the experience like?

We almost missed the pickup in Glasgow because I couldn’t find my other sock (classic), but our driver-guide, Jamie, just grinned and said, “No rush, the Highlands aren’t going anywhere.” That set the tone—easygoing, with a bit of Scottish mischief. The van was small enough to hear everyone’s introductions bounce around as we left the city behind. By the time we reached Loch Lomond, mist clinging to the water and sheep dotting the hillsides, I’d already forgotten my sock drama. The air smelled like wet grass and something sweet—maybe heather? Jamie pointed out Rannoch Moor and told us about old clan stories; I half-listened, half-watched rain streak down the windows.

Glencoe felt heavy with history—Jamie didn’t sugarcoat what happened there. We stood quietly for a moment while wind whipped around us. Lunch was somewhere near Ben Nevis (I can’t remember the name, but they had soup that tasted like campfire smoke). Eilean Donan Castle looked unreal against all that grey water. We didn’t go inside (wedding that day), but honestly just seeing it perched on its rock was enough for me. That night in Broadford, my B&B host handed me a mug of tea and said something I couldn’t quite catch—her accent was thick as porridge—but she laughed when I smiled back anyway.

The next morning on the Isle of Skye was all low clouds and sudden sunbursts. Jamie let us decide where to stop—so we did Kilt Rock first (the waterfall sound is louder than you’d think) and then Old Man of Storr. My boots got soaked; worth it for that view over the sea. There’s something about Skye’s light that makes everything feel bigger—like you’re walking through someone else’s dream. In Portree harbor later, a fisherman waved at us with hands stained blue from his nets.

On our way back south we stopped at Loch Ness for lunch (no sign of Nessie unless you count a floating log). The drive through Perthshire was sleepy; pine trees blurred by as I dozed off now and then. When we finally rolled into Glasgow again, I realized I’d barely checked my phone all trip—which says a lot these days. If you’re thinking about this small group tour from Glasgow to Skye and the Highlands… well, just bring extra socks.
