You’ll get to see Constanta’s iconic casino up close, step inside the historic Grand Mosque, and unwind at lively Mamaia Beach—all in one easy day trip from Bucharest with a friendly local guide.
The drive out of Bucharest was smooth—just a quick coffee stop at a roadside kiosk, then we were rolling past sunflower fields toward the coast. Our guide, Andrei, kept things lively with stories about old Dobrogea and pointed out where the Danube meets the sea. By late morning, we pulled into Constanta. The air smelled salty and a bit fishy, in that way only port towns do.
First up was the Constanta Casino. Even if you’ve seen photos, nothing quite prepares you for standing right in front of it. Seagulls circled above as waves slapped against the promenade’s stones. The casino’s art nouveau curves are faded but still grand—locals say it’s been here over 100 years. I snapped a photo with my windblown hair and that wild Black Sea behind me; honestly, it’s one for the books.
We wandered over to the Grand Mosque next (some call it Carol I Mosque). You can spot its minaret from blocks away. Inside, there’s this cool hush—tiles underfoot, sunlight slanting through stained glass. Our guide explained how it’s still an active place for Constanta’s Muslim community. If you’re up for it (and not afraid of heights), you can climb up for a view across rooftops to the sea.
After lunch—grilled fish at a tiny spot near Ovid Square—we drove north to Mamaia Beach. It’s busy in summer: music from beach bars, kids chasing each other with ice cream cones melting down their hands. The sand is pale and soft; water surprisingly warm by July. We just kicked back on loungers for a while, watching kite surfers zip past. If you want full-on relaxation or just people-watching with a cold drink, this is your spot.
The whole trip usually takes around 10–11 hours including travel time between Bucharest and the coast.
