You’ll get a friendly intro to Marlborough’s wine scene with a local guide in the morning—then spend your afternoon biking at your own pace between cellar doors. It’s relaxed, flexible, and perfect if you want both guidance and independence.
The day kicked off with a quick ride from my Blenheim stay—just a short drive, but enough for that first whiff of fresh Marlborough air. At the Vines Village, I got my helmet and a bright vest (can’t miss those), plus a map that looked well-loved. The café was already buzzing with locals grabbing coffee; you could smell pastries baking somewhere close. Our guide, Sarah, gathered us up and shared a bit about the region’s wine history—she knew her stuff but kept it light, tossing in stories about winemakers she’d met over the years.
We pedaled along flat roads lined with vines that seemed to stretch forever. No hills to worry about—honestly, even if you haven’t biked in ages, it’s easy going. The first winery had this crisp sauvignon blanc; I caught a hint of passionfruit (or maybe that was just me). By the third stop, I’d learned how to swirl and sniff like a pro—or at least fake it. Sarah pointed out which cellar doors had cheese platters worth stopping for later. By noon, she handed us our maps and some tips on quieter routes for the afternoon. I loved having the freedom to explore solo after getting my bearings with the group.
Yes! The terrain is flat and easy, so you don’t need to be an experienced cyclist. E-bikes are also available if you want extra help.
If it’s raining in the morning, we switch to a driving wine tour at no extra cost. Afternoon biking plans can be adjusted depending on weather.
Morning winery tasting fees are included for three stops. Afternoon tastings are pay-as-you-go at each cellar door.
This tour is only for guests aged 18 or older due to New Zealand’s drinking laws.
Your bike (regular or e-bike upgrade), helmet, hi-viz vest, wine region map, all morning tasting fees (three wineries), plus pickup and drop-off from Blenheim or Renwick accommodation are all sorted for you.
