What’s the experience like?

I didn’t expect Sarangkot to be so quiet at sunrise — just a few of us shivering in the early light, watching the Annapurna peaks slowly show themselves. Our guide, Prakash, handed me a cup of chai from his thermos (I think he brings it for himself but shares anyway). The air smelled like wood smoke and cold stone. I tried to take a photo but honestly, the camera never gets that feeling right. We could see Fewa Lake way down below, still wrapped in mist.

We stopped at Bindhyabasini Temple next. There was this gentle hum of bells and people moving around with flowers. I’m not Hindu but Prakash explained how locals come here every morning — he even showed me how to ring the bell (I probably did it wrong). After that we drove up to Matepani Gumba, which is a Buddhist monastery painted in colors that almost hurt your eyes after the gray morning.
