The Experience

The tour starts with pickup around 6:45 am from your hotel in Cancun or Playa del Carmen. You'll have a light gourmet breakfast on the bus—baguette, natural juice, pancake and coffee—while the guide outlines the day ahead. A certified bilingual guide walks you through Chichén Itzá for roughly two hours, explaining the history and mysteries of the Mayan pyramids and architecture. You get entry tickets, a reusable water bottle, earphones to hear the guide clearly, and umbrellas if the sun gets intense. After the guided portion, you have an hour of free time to explore on your own or take photographs. Before leaving the site, fresh drinks—water, beer and sodas—are available to refill.

From there, the bus heads to Santuario Tsukán cenote near Valladolid, where you swim in the fresh waters and take pictures. The cenote is the kind of stop that breaks up the day and gives you a chance to cool off. You'll want to bring a swimsuit and towel; a change of clothing is useful too since you'll be wet for part of the ride afterward.

The tour ends at La Casona de Valladolid restaurant with a buffet of regional Yucatán cuisine and unlimited drinks included—vegan and vegetarian options are available. If time allows after eating, you can walk around downtown Valladolid and photograph the cathedral before boarding the bus back to your accommodation.
