Summary

Mount fuji lakes houtou lunch & aokigahara walk with spanish guide

You’ll feel Mount Fuji’s quiet presence as you explore lakes like Motosu and Kawaguchiko with a Spanish-speaking guide, taste houtou noodles for lunch, wander through Oshino Village’s old streets, and step into Aokigahara forest’s deep stillness. Each stop brings its own mood — sometimes laughter, sometimes awe — leaving you with memories that linger long after you return.

experience

What’s the experience like?

The first thing I noticed was the hush — not silence, but that soft, muffled sound you get when you step out near Lake Motosu. The air had this fresh, almost sweet scent (maybe from the trees?) and our guide, Javier, was already pointing out where Mount Fuji peeks through the clouds. I tried to snap a photo but honestly, it never looks like what your eyes see. There were locals fishing by the water, just quietly doing their thing while we all stood there gawking at the view on the back of the thousand yen bill. You know that feeling when you realize you’re actually here?

We wandered through Oshino Village next — tiny wooden bridges over clear streams, kids in uniforms waving at us. Javier told us about how these springs come straight from Fuji’s snowmelt and handed us some sweet rice crackers to try (I dropped half of mine in the water; he laughed and said it was an offering to the koi). The shrine nearby felt older than anything back home — huge trees, mossy steps, incense drifting around. I’m not usually spiritual but there’s something about standing under those branches that makes you pause.

Lunch was houtou noodles in this snug spot with paper lanterns and fogged-up windows. The soup was thick and earthy — pumpkin, chewy noodles, veggies I couldn’t name. Everyone got quiet for a bit just eating and warming up. After that we rode up the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway for another angle on the mountain (clouds again), then wound our way to Aokigahara forest. It’s easy to see why people talk about it so much: dense green everywhere, roots twisting underfoot, light flickering through leaves. We didn’t go deep — just enough to feel how still it gets inside.

By late afternoon we’d seen Lake Kawaguchiko and Saiko too — each one different somehow, colors shifting as the sun moved. The Wind Cave was colder than I expected; my glasses fogged up right away and everyone laughed when I nearly tripped on a rock inside (classic me). Shiraito Falls at the end was loud but peaceful at the same time — spray on your face if you got close enough. On the drive back I kept thinking about those quiet moments by the lakes and how Fuji always seemed to be watching us from somewhere behind the mist.
