Summary

Capri’s sea caves, Faraglioni rocks and a day on the water

You’ll sail from Sorrento along dramatic cliffs and ancient villas before entering Capri’s famous Blue Grotto by boat. Swim beneath Faraglioni rocks, sip prosecco on deck, and enjoy three hours exploring Capri town at your own pace before heading back salty-haired and happy.

experience

What’s the experience like?

I didn’t expect the water to smell so sharp when we left Sorrento’s port — like salt and lemon peels. Our skipper, Marco, waved us aboard with that relaxed grin Italians have when they know something good is coming. There were just seven of us plus him, which felt right. As we drifted past Marina Grande, a fisherman shouted something I didn’t catch (Marco laughed and said it was about his haircut). The cliffs looked almost too perfect, but there was graffiti tucked under one archway — someone’s old love story maybe.

The Blue Grotto was first. Marco said we had to get there early or risk waiting forever behind bigger boats. I’d seen photos but nothing really prepares you for ducking into that tiny opening — it’s dark at first, then suddenly the cave glows this impossible blue. My friend gasped so loud she startled the rowboat guy. It smelled musty inside, like damp stone and old wood. Afterward we passed the Baths of Queen Giovanna; Marco pointed out where Romans used to swim (I tried to imagine them sunbathing here — probably less sunscreen back then).

We stopped for swimming twice — once by these jagged rocks near the Green Grotto where the water turned emerald under our feet. The prosecco came out after that; someone spilled a bit on their towel and nobody cared. Capri itself was busy but beautiful in its own way, all perfume shops and old men playing cards in the shade. We had three hours to wander but I mostly sat on a bench eating sticky fruit from a paper bag Marco handed around earlier. The Faraglioni rocks looked unreal up close — like something out of a dream or a postcard your grandmother keeps on her fridge.

Heading back toward Sorrento, everyone got quiet for a while except for some seagulls fighting over orange peels behind us. I still think about that moment — sunburned shoulders, salt in my hair, feeling both tired and lucky at once.

What’s included

Your day includes sailing with a professional skipper from Sorrento port with all fuel covered, use of scuba masks for swimming stops near grottos or Faraglioni rocks, life jackets for everyone onboard just in case (though honestly you might forget about them), soft drinks, water and beer throughout plus a bottle of prosecco per group when you’re ready for it. Seasonal fruit gets passed around too. There’s an outdoor shower if you want to rinse off after swimming and even a restroom onboard — which I was grateful for after all that prosecco!
