Step into Bali’s ocean at Tanjung Benoa and walk along the sea floor with a local guide by your side. You’ll wear a special helmet to breathe easily as fish swim around you and sunlight filters through green water. With all equipment included and optional hotel pickup, it’s an underwater moment you’ll remember long after drying off.
I didn’t really know what to expect when we pulled up at Tanjung Benoa — just the usual beach sounds, a bit of salty air, and then suddenly there was this big blue sign for “Sea Walker.” Our guide, Wayan, handed us these odd-looking helmets (he called them “space heads,” which made me laugh), and explained how they’d keep us breathing underwater. The whole thing felt a little sci-fi at first. I could hear the clatter of tanks being checked behind us and the faint smell of neoprene mixed with ocean breeze.
Getting into the water was honestly the weirdest part — you step down this ladder and suddenly your head is dry but your feet are on sand, fifteen feet under. Wayan kept giving us thumbs up through his mask, making sure we were okay. Fish darted everywhere, some bold enough to nibble at my fingers (I yelped — didn’t expect that). The light down there was softer than I thought it would be, almost greenish, and I kept reaching out just to feel the water moving past my hands. It’s not like snorkeling or diving; you’re just… walking. Slow and floaty.
We spent about half an hour wandering around down there. At one point Wayan pointed at a little cluster of clownfish — he tried to tell me their Balinese name but I definitely butchered it (he laughed anyway). There were moments where everything went quiet except for my own breath echoing inside the helmet. I still think about that silence sometimes — it’s different from any quiet above water, you know? Afterward, climbing back up felt heavier than going down, but maybe that was just me not wanting it to end yet.

No experience is required; anyone can join with basic fitness.
