What’s included

Your day includes door-to-door hotel pickup by an English-speaking driver, all entrance fees and taxes covered, professional instruction from a local snorkeling guide at both Blue Lagoon and Tanjung Jepun reefs, use of all required gear (just remember your towel), bottled water throughout, plus an à la carte Indonesian lunch before heading back—or onward—to explore one of Bali’s waterfalls if you choose that option.

Ketut was already waiting outside the hotel when we came down, grinning like he knew we were nervous first-timers. He asked if we’d ever snorkeled Bali’s Blue Lagoon before — I admitted I hadn’t even worn fins since high school swim class. The drive from Ubud to Padangbai felt quick with Ketut pointing out every rice field and telling us how the clouds meant the water would be extra clear today. I didn’t know whether to believe him but he seemed so sure.

At the beach, our snorkeling guide Wayan handed out gear that still smelled a bit salty from yesterday’s group (not in a bad way — just honest). He showed us how to keep our masks from fogging up by spitting in them, which made me laugh because I’d only ever seen that on YouTube. We climbed into this painted wooden boat bobbing near the sand and motored out toward Blue Lagoon. The sea was calm, almost glassy, and you could see straight down to where bright fish flickered over the reef. At one point Wayan pointed at something — I think it was a moray eel? — but honestly my heart was racing just keeping up with all the colors moving around my legs.

I didn’t expect lunch to be such a big deal but after swimming I was starving. They served us nasi goreng with little crunchy crackers and sweet tea that tasted faintly of jasmine. There was a family next to us whose kids kept running back to show off shells they’d found; their laughter kind of echoed off the rocks behind us. If you pick the waterfall add-on (we did), Ketut drove us up winding roads until we reached Kanto Lampo — cold spray on my face, slippery stones underfoot, and just this low roar of water that made everyone speak softer for some reason.

I still think about floating above those reefs — how quiet it got underwater except for my own breathing, and how for a second it felt like nobody else existed above the surface. It’s not perfect or fancy but honestly that’s what made it stick with me.
