What’s the experience like?

I never thought I’d be sweating over a chunk of Naxos marble, but there we were—just outside the village, the late afternoon light slipping through olive branches. The air smelled a bit like crushed leaves and stone dust, which sounds odd but felt grounding somehow. JB, our instructor (he’s French-Greek, with these paint-splattered jeans), handed me a chisel and said something about “letting the marble tell you what it wants.” I laughed because my block looked stubbornly silent.
