experience

What’s the experience like?

Mornings in the Parnon Mountains start crisp, with a bit of mist curling around the old stone houses. Our guide, Giorgos, greeted us by the village square—he knew everyone by name, even the baker who waved from his doorway. We set off on foot, boots crunching over gravel and wild thyme. The path wound between ridges and streams; you could hear water trickling somewhere below, hidden by thick ferns.

We passed through shepherd villages that felt frozen in time. In one spot, an old woman sold honey from her doorstep—her hands sticky with it as she handed us a sample. Around noon, we stopped at a viewpoint where hawks circled overhead. Out came mountain tea (smelled faintly of lemon) and a handful of olives and rusks for snacks. Giorgos shared stories about Hercules and Dionysus roaming these hills—he swore some legends started right here.

The route took about five hours with plenty of pauses to catch our breath or snap photos of wildflowers pushing up between rocks. By the end, my legs were tired but I felt like I’d stepped into another world—one where ancient roads still remember every footstep.
