Experience sweeping views over Accra from Aburi Hills, stroll shaded paths in the botanical gardens with a local expert, learn about Ghana’s cocoa story firsthand, and browse vibrant crafts at an art center. This tour blends nature, culture, and real conversation—plus you’ll taste original Ghanaian chocolate along the way.
“That’s the president’s lodge up there,” our guide said, pointing through the haze as we paused at a lookout. The city of Accra stretched out below us—tiny cars, distant horns, and a soft breeze that carried the scent of wet grass after last night’s rain. We snapped photos while our guide shared stories about growing up in Aburi, mixing local jokes with facts about the mountain’s history.
The path into Aburi Botanical Gardens felt almost like stepping into another world. Tall palm trees lined the walkway, their shadows dancing on the ground as we wandered past clusters of medicinal plants and wild ginger. Our guide stopped every few steps to show us something new—a leaf that smelled like lemon when crushed, or a tree used for healing fevers. He even pointed out which plants were hosts and which were parasites, making it all feel less like a lesson and more like chatting with an old friend who knew every secret corner.
Later on, we visited Ghana’s very first cocoa farm. I never realized how much work went into chocolate until I saw the pods up close—rough-skinned and heavy in my hands. Our guide explained how cocoa first arrived here and why it matters so much to local families. Before heading back, we made a quick stop at an art center full of bright fabrics and carved masks (I couldn’t resist picking up a small wooden elephant). For those who wanted, there was even time to meet some curious ostriches and tortoises at a nearby pet zoo—kids in our group loved it.
The tour usually lasts around half a day, including stops at the gardens, cocoa farm, art center, and optional pet zoo visit.
The walkways are mostly flat but do cover some distance; moderate fitness is helpful. The pet zoo is especially fun for kids.
Comfortable shoes are best for walking in the gardens. You might want sunscreen or a hat since some areas are sunny.
Bottled water is provided throughout your visit, plus you’ll receive an original Made in Ghana chocolate bar to enjoy.
Your experience comes with bottled water to keep you refreshed on warm days, WiFi onboard for easy sharing of photos, and air-conditioned transport from Accra so you can relax between stops. Plus there’s an original Ghanaian chocolate bar waiting for you—and when you visit each site, your friendly local guide handles all details so you can focus on exploring.
