What’s included

Your day includes slow cruising along Scandola’s volcanic coastline with a small group, all entry fees covered, use of snorkeling equipment for your swim break among fish-filled waters, and cold soft drinks served by your captain before returning to port together.

The first thing I noticed was how the wind smelled sharp, almost peppery with salt, as we edged close to those jagged red cliffs of Scandola Reserve. Our captain—Jean-Luc, who everyone just called “Lu”—nodded at a patch of rocks shaped like something out of a dream. He slowed the boat right down so we could see goats balancing on ledges that looked impossible. Someone behind me whispered about golden eagles overhead, but honestly I was still trying to process how blue the water was. Not fake brochure blue—like someone dropped ink in it.

We slid into a narrow crack between two walls of volcanic stone, Lu grinning as he steered us so close I could have touched the rock if I’d leaned out (I didn’t). It was quieter in there. The engine hummed low and you could hear little waves slapping against the hull. Lu pointed up at some old Genoese tower on Gargalo island—he told us a story about pirates but my French is rusty so I probably missed half of it. He handed out cold sodas and laughed when I tried to say “merci beaucoup” with my mouth full.

I didn’t expect to swim—the water looked too clear to be real—but after Lu anchored us in a cove he tossed me a snorkel mask anyway. There were fish everywhere, flickering silver under the surface. The sun felt good on my shoulders when I got back on board and for a second nobody said anything, just sat there dripping and smiling at each other. That silence stuck with me more than any photo.
