Summary

Half-day canyoning near Nice wild water jumps slides & friendly guides

You’ll scramble, slide, rappel and swim through wild Gorges du Loup canyons just outside Nice with an expert guide by your side. From cool stone chutes to optional jumps and laughter with locals, this half-day canyoning trip is about small moments of courage—and maybe a little mud behind your ears.

experience

What’s the experience like?

I almost missed the turnoff for the Gorges du Loup—Google Maps went a bit rogue and I ended up on a tiny road with goats blocking the way. Not how I pictured starting a canyoning trip near Nice, but it made me laugh (and honestly calmed my nerves). When I finally found the meeting spot, our guide Camille was already waiting, chatting with two locals who seemed to know every rock and bend in the river. She handed me a wetsuit and helmet, double-checked my harness, and said “Don’t worry if you’ve never done this before—most people haven’t.” Felt reassuring.

The first rappel looked higher than it sounded on paper (I think it was just 10 meters but my knees disagreed). The rock felt cold and rough under my hands. Camille showed us how to lean back and trust the rope—my heart thudded louder than the waterfall next to us. After that, things got fun: sliding down smooth stone chutes into pools so clear you could see your toes wiggling underwater. The air smelled green, if that makes sense—like wet leaves and river spray. There were jumps too (up to 8 meters), but nobody pushed anyone. One guy in our group chickened out at the last second and Camille just grinned: “Next time.”

We swam through deep basins where sunlight flickered between tree branches overhead. At one point I tried to say “Gorges du Loup” with a French accent—one of the locals laughed so hard he nearly slipped off a rock. It’s all pretty close to Antibes and Cannes (less than 45 minutes), which surprised me because it felt like we were hours from any city noise or traffic. By the end, everyone was soaked and shivering but kind of giddy. My hands still smelled faintly of river stones when I got back to the car.
