You’ll walk through snowy forests just outside Rovaniemi with a local guide who shares stories about Finnish nature. Try snowshoeing, spot animal tracks, and relax by a campfire with snacks and hot drinks. It’s cozy, fun, and you’ll get photos to remember it all.
The crunch of snow under my boots was the first thing I noticed—soft, but somehow crisp in the cold air. Our guide, Sanna, handed out snowshoes and showed us how to strap them on right outside the van. She grew up just outside Rovaniemi and knows these woods like her own backyard. The forest wasn’t far from town, but it felt like another world—quiet except for the distant call of a jay and the soft swish of our steps.
I kept stopping to look at tiny tracks zigzagging across the path—Sanna pointed out some that belonged to a hare, others maybe a fox. The trees were heavy with snow, branches drooping low enough that I brushed past them if I wasn’t careful. After about an hour and a half of walking (not too fast, plenty of stops for photos), we reached a small clearing where Sanna had already set up a little campfire spot. She passed around hot berry juice and sausages—she even brought veggie ones for me when I mentioned it earlier. Sitting on a log by the fire, warming my hands and listening to Sanna talk about Finnish winters, I felt like I could stay there all afternoon.
Yes! The guide explains everything at the start and keeps an easy pace. It’s fine for most fitness levels.
No problem—just let us know in advance and we’ll bring vegetarian sausages for you.
The walk itself is about 1.5 hours plus time by the fire—plan on around 3 hours total including pick-up and drop-off.
We can provide winter clothes and boots if you ask ahead of time—just mention it when booking.
You get pick-up and drop-off within 15km of Rovaniemi center, snowshoes, snacks (sausages or veggie option), hot drinks like coffee or tea, warm clothes if needed (just ask), plus some great photos from your trip sent to you afterwards.
