You’ll wander deep into Lapland’s Taiga forest with a local guide who’ll teach you real survival tricks—like lighting fires and finding wild berries—plus you’ll get to taste Finnish campfire snacks along the way. If you want to see Lapland’s wild side up close and learn something useful, this tour’s got you covered.
The air out here smells like pine and moss, especially after a bit of rain. We left Rovaniemi behind and, within half an hour, the city felt miles away—just endless trees and that soft crunch underfoot. Our guide, Sanni, grew up nearby and seemed to know every plant by name. She showed us how to spot edible berries—blueberries everywhere in July, tiny but sweet if you catch them at the right time. I’d never tasted lingonberries straight from the bush before; they’re tart but oddly refreshing.
We learned how to build a fire using birch bark (it really does light fast), and Sanni explained which mushrooms are safe to pick in early autumn. The forest changes so much between seasons—summer is all green and buzzing with insects, while autumn brings those deep ruska colors: golds, reds, even a bit of purple on the leaves. There was a moment when everything went quiet except for a distant woodpecker tapping away. Halfway through, we stopped for coffee brewed over the fire and grilled sausages—a proper Finnish snack break. It’s simple but hits the spot when you’re out in the woods.
The guide will adjust the route based on your ability, so it works for most fitness levels. Just let us know if you have any concerns.
Dress for the weather—layers are best since it can change quickly in Lapland. Good walking shoes are important too.
Please mention any dietary needs when booking—we’ll do our best to offer suitable campfire snacks.
The experience usually takes several hours including transfers from Rovaniemi. Exact timing depends on group pace and season.
Your day includes a friendly local guide who knows these forests inside out, hotel pickup and drop-off (if you’re outside city center), all taxes and fees, plus classic Finnish campfire snacks with hot drinks along the way. If your accommodation is more than 10 km from town there’s a small extra charge for transport.
