A traditional tatami room dance by sumiyoshi shachu kagoshima
The 170-year-old traditional Japanese house offers a glimpse into the historical Japanese lifestyle and customs. Kagoshima, known for its tea plantations, provides visitors with carefully selected sencha paired with seasonal sweets, capturing the essence of each season.
Historically, Kagoshima women learned etiquette through tea ceremonies, shamisen playing, and dance before marriage. Local gatherings called "shachu" featured singing, dancing, and shamisen performances.
"Sumiyoshi Shachu" in Ichiki-Kushikino City remains the sole preserver of this traditional performing art from the Meiji era (circa 1870).
This blend of historical ambiance and cultural practices offers a distinct and immersive experience that goes beyond typical tourist activities.
