What’s included

Your day includes pickup in an air-conditioned vehicle from Luxor, all entry fees (if selected), guided visits through both Abydos and Dendera temples with plenty of time for questions or quiet moments before returning back in comfort.

I didn’t expect the road out of Luxor to feel so empty. Our driver (I never caught his name, but he had a soft spot for old Egyptian pop songs) hummed along as we left the city behind. The sun was already sharp at 8am, dust swirling around the car windows. I kept thinking: how many people have made this same trip to Abydos? Our guide, Hossam, pointed out sugarcane fields and told us King Seti I started building the temple here — “for his father and Osiris,” he said, almost like he was letting us in on a family secret.

Abydos Temple itself is… well, it’s hard to describe without sounding dramatic. The columns are thick and cool under your hands. There’s this faint smell — old stone mixed with incense from someone’s offering. Hossam showed us carvings where the colors still hold on after all these centuries. He laughed when I tried reading some hieroglyphs out loud (I definitely butchered them). It’s quieter than other sites; you can actually hear your own footsteps echoing in the halls.

Dendera was next — about an hour back toward Luxor, if you’re curious about logistics. The Temple of Hathor almost glows inside; blues and golds on the ceiling that look painted yesterday. Some locals were sweeping leaves in the courtyard and waved at us as we passed by. There’s something joyful about this place — maybe it’s just Hathor being the goddess of love and joy or maybe it was the way sunlight hit those painted faces. We lingered longer than planned (sorry to our driver), just sitting in one shadowy corner listening to distant birds outside.

The drive back felt slower somehow. Maybe it was tiredness or maybe just not wanting to leave that strange hush behind. I still think about those colors above my head at Dendera — they don’t quite leave you after you’ve seen them up close.
