What’s included

Your day includes round trip hotel pickup from Punta Cana, entry to all sites including Macao Beach and an underground water cave, plus tastings of Dominican coffee and chocolate at an organic farm before heading back relaxed (and probably still sandy).

“You ever driven one of these things before?” our guide grinned, handing me the keys to the buggy. Honestly, I hadn’t — and I was nervous enough to laugh it off. The engine coughed awake and suddenly we were bouncing down muddy tracks outside Punta Cana, palms whipping past and that thick tropical air sticking to my arms. My friend kept yelling over the engine noise every time we hit a puddle (which was often). It’s loud and messy and you get mud everywhere — but that’s kind of the point, right?

We stopped at this small organic farm tucked between banana trees. The smell hit me first: roasted coffee beans with something sweet underneath — maybe chocolate? Our host poured us tiny cups and explained how they grow everything here without chemicals. I tried repeating “café orgánico” back to her; she smiled politely but I’m pretty sure my accent was a disaster. The chocolate was gritty and rich, nothing like what you buy back home. There was rum too, sharp and warm in my throat. I still think about that taste sometimes when I smell coffee in the morning.

After that it got quieter — we parked by a cave entrance where cool air drifted out like someone left a fridge open. Inside, water so clear it looked fake pooled under limestone walls. Some people jumped straight in; I hesitated (it’s colder than you’d think) but ended up floating on my back watching little flecks of light bounce around above me. Then it was back into the buggies for one last ride to Macao Beach — white sand, locals grilling fish nearby, kids laughing in Spanish while we rinsed off the mud in the waves. We just sat there for a while not saying much, letting salt dry on our skin.
