You’ll pedal through Prague’s Old Town with a local guide, pausing for stories at places like Charles Bridge, Estates Theatre, and the Lennon Wall. Smell fresh bread by Municipal House, hear river sounds on Kampa Island, and catch unexpected moments between stops. This small group city bike tour includes your bike rental, helmet, wireless headset for stories along the way — just bring curiosity.
Someone hands me a helmet that still smells faintly of last night’s rain, and I’m suddenly nervous about riding a bike in Prague — but our guide, Petra, laughs and promises it’s “easier than it looks.” We wobble out into Old Town Square, dodging a wedding couple and a kid with an ice cream bigger than his head. The Astronomical Clock chimes somewhere behind us. Petra starts telling us about the Estates Theatre and Mozart (she says he loved Prague more than Vienna — not sure if that’s true but I want to believe it).
The city feels different from a bike seat — you catch whiffs of fresh bread near Municipal House and then the river air hits as we roll toward Charles Bridge. We stop by the Dancing House (Petra calls it “Fred & Ginger,” which makes me smile), and there’s this odd sense of modern glass against all the old stone. On Kampa Island we park for drinks; I fumble my coins and almost drop my cup but nobody minds. There are ducks, some street musicians tuning up nearby, and for a second I just listen instead of snapping photos.
I didn’t expect to feel much at the John Lennon Wall — graffiti is everywhere these days — but seeing all those layers of color and messages felt strangely hopeful. Petra tells us about protests here during Communist times; she points at one phrase in Czech and tries to translate but shrugs halfway through (“It’s hard to say in English… you’d have to be Czech to get it”). The ride isn’t hard at all, mostly flat, no hills like I feared. We finish near Rudolfinum with tired legs and way too many photos on my phone. I still think about that view over the river — something about the light bouncing off the bridges made everything look softer.
