What’s included

I didn’t really know what to expect from this Blue Cave & Five Islands tour out of Split—just that everyone seemed to talk about it like some kind of rite of passage. The morning was louder than I thought (those speedboats don’t whisper), but there’s something about the sea air here that wakes you up in a way coffee never does. Our guide, Luka, handed out bottled water and grinned at my hair blowing everywhere. “You’ll get used to it!” he said. I still hear the slap of waves against the hull when I think back.

The Blue Cave itself—yeah, people hype it up for a reason. You duck into this low entrance and suddenly you’re inside, everything washed in this weird silver-blue light. It almost glows from below; I tried to take a photo but honestly, my phone just made it look flat. Luka explained how the sunlight bounces off the white sand under the water and that’s what makes the cave look like that. Everyone went quiet for a second—I guess we all felt small in there.

Afterwards we stopped at Stiniva Cove on Vis Island—a place you can only reach by boat because these two cliffs kind of fold around it like arms. Swimming there felt different: saltier somehow? Or maybe just colder than I expected. There was one older guy sunbathing on a rock who waved at us and yelled something in Croatian—Luka translated but I already forgot what he said (sorry). Then Budikovac Island was next, which has only one permanent resident most of the year—imagine living there! The lagoon was so clear you could see every pebble under your feet.

We wandered Hvar town for an hour or so. Old stones everywhere, cafes spilling onto squares, people moving slow in the heat—except for kids chasing pigeons near St. Stephen’s square. Luka pointed out Europe’s oldest theater but honestly I was more focused on finding gelato (mission accomplished). Last stop: Pakleni Islands for another swim and a drink at this beach bar where everyone seemed half asleep from sun and saltwater. My skin still smells faintly like sunscreen and sea even now.
