Summary

From Split to Mostar’s bridge and Kravice’s emerald pools with a guide

You’ll cross borders and cultures on this day trip from Split: sip strong Turkish coffee in Počitelj, walk across Mostar’s famous bridge with a local guide, and cool off swimming beneath Kravice waterfalls’ emerald spray. Expect lively stories, real moments with locals, and plenty of time to soak up both history and river air.

experience

What’s the experience like?

I didn’t really know what to expect crossing into Bosnia & Herzegovina from Split — just this quiet excitement in my stomach. The border crossing was quicker than I thought (bring your passport though, obviously), and then suddenly the landscape changed. Our guide, Jasmina, started pointing out old stone houses tucked into the hills as we wound toward Počitelj. It was early enough that the village still felt sleepy; a man in a blue shirt waved from his stoop, and I could smell woodsmoke mixed with something sweet — maybe figs? There’s this little square where we stopped for Turkish coffee (I tried to order it in Bosnian and got a smile for effort). The cup was tiny but strong enough to wake me right up.

Mostar itself is sort of surreal. The Old Bridge arches over green water that looks fake until you see the way sunlight flickers off it. We watched a guy — apparently one of the local divers — stand on the edge forever before finally leaping in. The crowd cheered like it was normal, but I swear my heart was racing just watching him. Jasmina told us stories about the bridge being rebuilt after the war; you can still see bullet marks on some walls if you look close. Walking those cobblestones feels heavier when you think about all that history under your feet. Also: don’t wear slippery shoes here, trust me.

Kravice waterfalls were louder than I expected — not just the water crashing down but kids laughing, someone playing music off their phone by the rocks. We had time to swim (the water is freezing at first but worth it) or just sit by the edge and watch dragonflies dart around. The air smelled like wet grass and river stones, which sounds weird but I keep remembering it. On the way back to Split everyone was quieter — tired maybe, or just thinking about everything we’d seen strung together in one day trip from Split to Mostar and Kravice falls.
