If you want to see a quieter side of Hvar—old villages, secret paths, and open views—this self-guided e-bike tour is for you. Go at your own pace, stop where you like, and soak up the island’s real character away from the crowds.
The first thing I noticed as we rolled out of Hvar town was the salty breeze—just a hint, mixed with the scent of wild herbs. The e-bike made the uphill stretches feel almost too easy, so I slowed down to take in the olive groves and stone walls. Our route led us straight to Malo Grablje, a place that feels frozen in time. There’s no one around except maybe a stray cat or two, and the old stone houses are half-swallowed by wildflowers. It’s quiet here, almost echoey, and you can hear your own footsteps crunching on gravel if you hop off to explore.
From there, we followed the winding road up to Velo Grablje. The village is tiny—just a handful of houses—but you’ll spot lavender drying in front yards if you come in early summer. Our guide had mentioned that this area once supplied most of Europe’s lavender oil, and you can still catch that sweet, dusty smell in the air. We stopped for a quick snack under a fig tree (bring your own, there’s no shop here), then pushed on toward Brusje and its rolling fields. The last climb up to Napoleon Fortress is worth it for the view: all red roofs, blue sea, and little islands scattered like pebbles. I snapped a photo but honestly, it doesn’t do it justice.
The e-bikes are fully charged and last long enough for the whole route—usually 60-80 km depending on how much power you use.
You’ll get a self-guided route on your phone. It’s straightforward, with clear directions at each turn.
