What’s included

Your day includes round-trip hotel pickup (except Barra da Tijuca/Recreio), entry tickets for Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf cable car with no-queue access, a professional multilingual guide throughout all stops like Maracanã Stadium and Selarón Steps, plus a full Brazilian buffet lunch before heading back in comfort by air-conditioned vehicle.

We were already winding up Corcovado when I realized how much Rio de Janeiro is just… alive. Our guide, Fernanda, was telling us stories about the city’s hills and favelas as the van climbed higher. The air smelled faintly of rain even though it wasn’t raining (yet). At the top, Christ the Redeemer felt both huge and oddly gentle—arms open wide over everything. I tried to take a photo but mostly ended up staring at the view. You can see all of Rio from up there: green pockets of Tijuca Forest, sudden flashes of blue sea. A couple next to me started singing softly in Portuguese—no idea what song but it fit.

After that came Sugarloaf Mountain. I’d seen photos before but standing in the cable car as it glided above Urca felt different—like floating through clouds and city noise at once. Fernanda pointed out Copacabana Beach (“that curve there!”) and laughed when someone asked if locals ever get tired of this view. She said never. We stopped for photos at Maracanã Stadium (our driver had strong opinions about football teams), then stepped into the cool hush of Rio de Janeiro Cathedral—a modern pyramid with colored glass spilling light everywhere. Honestly, I didn’t expect to feel moved inside a concrete building but there’s something about that silence broken only by footsteps.

The Selarón Steps were next—so many colors my eyes didn’t know where to land. Kids darted past us while tourists posed; I tried to spot my country’s tile but got distracted by a bright yellow one from Chile instead (the artist was Chilean—Fernanda told us he lived right there). Lapa was buzzing even in daylight: music thumping from somewhere nearby, people waving or just watching from doorways. Lunch was a blur of grilled meats and feijão; I probably ate too much but who cares? The waiter taught me how to say “thank you” properly in Portuguese—I think I still got it wrong.
