inclusions

What’s included

Your day includes premium German-made e-bikes fitted for comfort with gel seats and puncture-proof tyres; helmets; bike lights (for tunnels); lock; pannier bag for your stuff; an easy pre-ride briefing with local advice; plus phone support if anything comes up while you're out exploring on your own schedule.

“You’ll probably want to stop for coffee at Burringbar,” our guy at Beyond Byron E Bikes grinned as he handed me the helmet. I was still fiddling with the pannier straps, slightly nervous about the whole e-bike thing (first time, honestly), but he ran through everything — how to use the Bosch motor, where to find phone support if I got lost or stuck. The air smelled like wet grass and eucalyptus; it had rained earlier, so the trail felt washed clean. Mooball was quieter than I expected — just a few locals waving from their utes and that mural of cows staring us down from across the road.

We rolled straight onto the Northern Rivers Rail Trail, barely any cars in sight. The e-bikes were smoother than my old pushbike back home — gel seats actually make a difference (who knew?). There’s this first stretch where you pass under giant trees and hear nothing but birds and your own tires humming on the path. My partner tried to race me up a gentle hill but gave up laughing halfway when I cranked up the assist. You can go as fast or slow as you want — nobody rushing you. At one point we stopped just because a kookaburra was sitting on a fence post, looking like it owned the place.

The tunnels are darker than they look in photos — you’ll be glad for those bike lights they give you. It’s cool inside, almost damp, and there’s this echo when you laugh or shout something dumb (which we did). We made it about halfway before hunger hit and found a bakery in one of those little towns along the way — can’t remember which one now, but they had these weirdly good lamingtons. The best part? No schedule except our own. That freedom sticks with me more than anything else.
