Summary

Small-group UTV ride along Aruba’s rugged coast, gold mill ruins and quiet beaches with personal local guide

You’ll ride your own UTV along Aruba’s rugged north coast with a small group (max 4 vehicles), guided by a local who knows every turn. Feel wind and grit on your skin at Blackstone Beach, wander through Bushiribana Gold Mill Ruins, pause at Alto Vista Chapel, and finally cool off at Arashi Beach before heading back salty and smiling.

experience

What’s the experience like?

You know that sound when gravel crunches under big tires? That’s what I remember first from our Aruba UTV adventure—well, that and the salty air hitting my face before we even left the starting point. Our guide Carlos (he grew up just down the road) handed out dust goggles and bandanas with this half-smile like he knew we’d need them more than we thought. He showed us how to work the UTVs—honestly, I was nervous about driving but he made it feel easy, even fun. There were only three other vehicles in our group, so it felt more like a road trip with friends than a tour.

The first stop was Blackstone Beach. It’s nothing like those postcard-perfect Caribbean spots—black sand everywhere and jagged rocks that look almost volcanic. The waves crash so loud you have to shout if you want anyone to hear you. Carlos told us about the old “Mother Bridge” nearby that collapsed years ago; I tried to picture it standing there while picking up these tiny black stones. We bumped along past Andicuri Beach where local surfers were out—one of them waved as we passed, board tucked under his arm. The whole north coast feels wild, windy, not polished for tourists at all.

I didn’t expect to care about old ruins on a day trip in Aruba but the Bushiribana Gold Mill Ruins surprised me. The stone walls are rough under your hands and you can still smell the seaweed mixed with dust inside. Carlos explained how people came here chasing gold in the 1800s—hard to imagine now with just lizards sunning themselves on the rocks. We stopped again at Alto Vista Chapel; yellow against blue sky, super peaceful except for birds darting around. My partner tried to light a candle but gave up after three matches blew out (the wind doesn’t quit up there).

We ended at Arashi Beach—finally soft white sand and turquoise water after all that dust. I dunked my head straight in; salt stung my eyes but I didn’t care. It felt good to just float for a minute after bouncing over rocks all morning. On the drive back, everyone was quiet in that happy-tired way—I still think about that view from the lighthouse too, wide open sea and nothing else for miles.
